Team USA has taken an early lead in the 17th Solheim Cup, winning three of the four opening foursomes matches against Team Europe at Gleneagles in Scotland.

Ally Ewing and world number one Nelly Korda claimed the first point for the visitors when they beat Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Georgia Hall 1up.

Lizette Salas and Jennifer Kupcho were then comfortable 3&2 winners over Celine Boutier and Emily Pedersen.

Europe’s Leona Maguire and Mel Reid ended USA’s winning run by taking care of Lexi Thompson and Jessica Korda 2up.

But Team USA wrapped up the session when Megan Khang and Mina Harigae beat Charley Hull and Anna Nordqvist 3&2.

The second day of the Solheim Cup continues on Saturday with fourballs matches before 12 singles matches on Sunday.
