This week marks a significant event as the PGA TOUR descends upon Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida for THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass. The defending champion and current World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is back on the iconic Stadium Course with aspirations to make history by becoming the first player to win this prestigious tournament three times.
Key Competitors
World No. 2 Rory McIlroy aims to recapture his past glory at this venue. After winning the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am earlier this year and previously clinching THE PLAYERS title in 2019, he looks forward to improving his performance at TPC Sawgrass where results have been inconsistent since then.
A Challenging Course Layout
This year’s course has seen an increase in length with over 75 yards added, bringing it to a total of 7,352 yards. Alongside last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational champion Russell Henley, other notable participants include Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Åberg, Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Thomas, and Rickie Fowler—making up a field that features an impressive roster of 48 out of the world’s top 50 players competing this year. The event is expected to showcase the best shots of the day from the top players, including Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Min Woo Lee, Akshay Bhatia, and Collin Morikawa, among others.
