In a surprising turn of events, the PGA Tour and The Open Championship organizers have opened the door for LIV Golf players to qualify for the prestigious tournament. This move suggests a possible reconciliation between the two golf organizations,which split last year over player defections.
Greg McNealy, the PGA Tour player director, commented, “Our pathways are designed to identify the best players in the world. If these guys are truly among the best, they’ll find their way onto this tour.” This statement highlights the focus on fair competition and quality over dramatic changes in policy.
The pathway to The Open is now clear. Players must either finish in the top ten on the DP World Tour or earn their place through Q-School. This approach mirrors the route for other non-PGA players, marking a meaningful concession from the PGA Tour, which previously did not recognise LIV golfers.
