Simpson named vice captain for U.S. Ryder Cup

Webb Simpson has been named vice captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team, captain Zach Johnson announced Wednesday.

Simpson, a seven-time PGA Tour winner and two-time major champion, will join Davis Love III as Johnson’s vice captains for the biennial competition against Europe to be held Sept. 26-27 at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.

“Webb brings a wealth of experience and success to our team,” Johnson said. “He is a true leader and will be a valuable asset in the locker room and on the course.”

Simpson said he is “honored and excited” to serve as a vice captain.

“I am looking forward to working with Zach and Davis to help the U.S. team regain the Ryder Cup,” Simpson said.
