James Hahn battled to a five-stroke victory at the weather-hit Wells Fargo Championship on Sunday, claiming his second PGA Tour title two years after losing his card.
Hahn had to settle for par at the last to finish with a one-under 69 and end the week on 12-under 268 at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm.
That gave him a five-shot cushion over fellow American Tyler Duncan, with Denny McCarthy a further stroke back in third after a 68.
Hahn found it tough going on day four, carding three bogeys and just the one birdie on his outward nine to make the turn in 38.
But he steadied the ship on the back nine with nine straight pars to ensure his victory.
“It’s been a rollercoaster ride,” Hahn said. “I got off to a good start today. The rough was brutal out there. I just kept grinding and ended up hanging on at the end.
“It’s an honor to get a win out here. I love competing against the best players in the world and this is what we work so hard for.”
It is Hahn’s second PGA Tour title after his victory at the Wells Fargo Championship in 2014, which he was forced to qualify for through Monday qualifying.
The 38-year-old lost his PGA Tour card in 2019 after failing to make a single cut in 17 starts. He regained it at the Korn Ferry Tour Finals in 2020 and has been steadily improving his form this season.
Hahn’s victory is a timely boost as he prepares for the PGA Championship at Southern Hills next week.
