Thomas leads Scottish Open after 62; Rory 3 back
Justin Thomas fired a sparkling 9-under 62 to surge into a one-stroke lead after the opening round of the Scottish Open.
The American, who won the PGA Championship in May, carded eight birdies and an eagle at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick.
Home favorite Rory McIlroy is three strokes back after a bogey-free 65, while overnight leader Bobby MacIntyre is a further shot behind after a 66.
Thomas is aiming to secure his second Scottish Open title after winning in 2018, while McIlroy is looking to defend the title he won last year.
