In a thrilling conclusion to the Australian Open, newly-crowned champion Min Woo Lee has lauded the exceptional performance of his rival Cameron Smith, finishing just three shots behind him in a fierce title defense. While Lee struggled to mount a comeback in the final round, Smith delivered a flawless display that left spectators in awe. Despite not clinching victory, the young golfer was still elated with his week’s achievements as he celebrated securing his second Open title. “I am still getting used to leading and I am learning on the run, so a top three here is a good result for me,” Lee reflected. “He [Smith] played an incredible round of golf. I am three shots behind and there was not much I could do.”
Yang Leads Women’s PGA, Eyes First Major
South Korea’s Inbee Yang fired an opening 6-under 65 on Thursday to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Women’s PGA Championship at Congressional Country Club.
Yang, a seven-time major winner, is seeking her first major title since the 2020 ANA Inspiration. She birdied five of her first 10 holes and added another on the par-5 15th to seize the early advantage.
“I’m hitting the ball really well,” Yang said. “I’m putting it really well. I’m just really happy with the way I’m playing.”
Defending champion Jennifer Kupcho opened with a 4-under 67, while Nelly Korda and Lexi Thompson both shot 68s.
