Rory cards 67 in round marked by flying clubhead
Rory McIlroy stormed into contention at the CJ Cup in South Carolina with a scintillating 67 on Friday, despite a bizarre incident involving his clubhead flying off. The four-time major champion reached 5 under par for the tournament after 36 holes, trailing leader Kurt Kitayama by three strokes. McIlroy’s round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 15th hole, but it was overshadowed by the clubhead incident on the 13th hole. After hitting an aggressive drive, McIlroy’s clubhead detached and sailed into the rough. Remarkably, the Northern Irishman was able to find the clubhead and reattach it, before hitting a superb approach shot to set up a birdie.
