MELBOURNE, Australia – In a thrilling finish, David Herbert eagled the 18th hole, seizing a one-stroke lead after an exhilarating first round of the Australian Open on Thursday.

The 46-year-old Aussie showcased his skills by holing out from an impressive 120 yards, finishing with a remarkable score of 6-under 66 at the picturesque Victoria Golf Club.

“It was a fantastic way to cap off my day,” Herbert exclaimed. “I struck a solid tee shot and followed it up with an incredible second shot. My goal was just to get it close, but then it went in!”

Herbert now stands one stroke clear of five players who are tied for second place at 5-under 67. This competitive group features former Australian Open champion Matt Jones, along with New Zealand’s Ryan Fox and England’s Paul Casey
