This Tour winner wants to keep two handicaps. Do the rules allow it?

Will Gordon was the low amateur at the Masters in 2022 and after a T4 finish at the US Amateur was invited to play in the US Open. Gordon had the course record at Augusta National for an amateur and was 9-under in the 2022 NCAAs before play was stopped due to lightning.

He has now won the Korn Ferry Tour’s 2023 Savannah Golf Championship, which will require him to play more PGA Tour events in the coming months. But … Gordon still wants to play amateur golf, too.

Gordon wants to defend his North & South Amateur title and also play in the US Amateur this summer, but the Rules of Amateur Status say he should give up his amateur status if he plays more than seven PGA Tour events as a professional. Gordon has appealed to the USGA to keep his amateur status while playing Tour events.
