Ortiz wins in Houston for first LIV Golf title
Abraham Ancer birdied the second hole of a four-man playoff to win the LIV Golf Houston tournament on Sunday, securing his first title on the breakaway circuit.
Ancer holed a 12-foot putt to defeat Carlos Ortiz, Phachara Khongwatmai, and Talor Gooch, who were tied after regulation.
The victory is a breakthrough for Ancer, who has been one of the most consistent players on the LIV Golf tour this season. The 32-year-old Mexican has now finished in the top 10 in all five of the LIV Golf events he has played in this year.
Ancer’s win also gives LIV Golf its first Mexican champion. The tour has been criticized for its lack of diversity, but Ancer’s victory is a step in the right direction.
