Matt Wallace secured his eighth European Tour title with a playoff victory at the European Masters in Switzerland.

Wallace fired a flawless 64 in the first round to open up a four-shot lead at The Renaissance Club. He held onto his advantage throughout the tournament, eventually needing a playoff to defeat South Africa’s Dean Burmester.

“It’s an amazing feeling to win again,” Wallace said. “I’ve been working hard on my game and it’s all coming together now.”

England’s Andrew “Beef” Johnston finished tied for third place, three shots behind Wallace.

Matt Wallace carded a 4-under-par 66 on Thursday to take a one-shot lead after the first round of the CJ Cup at Byron Nelson. Wallace, who missed the cut in his last two starts and had not finished higher than 27th in his previous four, made five birdies and just one bogey at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas. “I’ve been playing pretty good golf, just haven’t been putting myself in the right positions…. I felt like I did that today,” Wallace said. “I putted better. And, yeah, just one silly bogey, which is more than acceptable.”
