Bhatia Shares Lead in Detroit; Russell Misses Cut
GURGAON, India, Aug. 2, 2023: Amanjyot Singh Bhatia shares lead with Australia’s Aaron Pike with rounds of 66 in the second day of weather-delayed Korn Ferry Tour’s Michigan Championship on Tuesday.
Bhatia, a 33-year-old three-time winner on the PGTI, made the cut at the Monday qualifier for the third consecutive season at the tournament suffering from back spasms.
Rahil Gangjee, the other Indian to make the cut, was placed tied 50th after a round of 69.
However, Shiv Kapur and Veer Ahlawat missed the cut after rounds of 73 and 74 respectively at the tournament.
N. Korda bitten by dog, WDs from England event
North Carolina, US – World No. 2 Nelly Korda has withdrawn from this week’s AIG Women’s Open after being bitten by a dog on Sunday.
Korda was at her rented home in Florida when the incident occurred. She shared on social media that she received stitches on her arm as a result of the bite.
“Unfortunately, I will have to withdraw from the AIG Women’s Open due to a dog bite that required stitches,” Korda posted on her social media.
The 23-year-old American was one of the favorites to win the major championship. She has won two LPGA Tour events this season and finished second at the U.S. Women’s Open.
Korda’s withdrawal is a major blow to the AIG Women’s Open. She is the highest-ranked player in the field and was expected to challenge for the title.
Atthaya Thitikul’s dominance continued at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational with a low third-round 66 leaving her in a 3-way tie atop the leaderboard. Thitikul is joined by Xiyu Lin and Leona Maguire who also shot 66 and 67 respectively to finish at 15-under par. Behind the trio are 3 players in 4th place tied at 13-under. Thitikul and company will look to capture their maiden LPGA Tour title Sunday in front of a home crowd for Thitikul in Michigan.
Padraig Harrington has achieved a historic three-peat in the Champions event, becoming the first player to win the tournament in three consecutive years. The Irishman held off a strong challenge from Bernhard Langer and Miguel Ángel Jiménez to secure the victory, marking his ninth win on the PGA Tour Champions.
