Matt Kuchar’s explanation, Golf’s Olympic miracle, nightmare 8 | Monday Finish
Matt Kuchar, Team USA’s ‘fourth’ golfer, lived up to the ‘anything can happen’ mantra of Olympic sports. The veteran pro, a non-qualifier who was added to the roster due to withdrawals, crafted a dramatic bronze-medal finish in Tokyo.
Kuchar started the final round nine shots adrift of eventual gold medalist Xander Schauffele but carded an Olympic course-record 63, which included a 12-foot eagle putt on 18 to secure a tie for third with Sebastian Munoz of Colombia.
In this exclusive chat with Bob Harig, Kuchar takes us inside his wild Olympic experience, how he dealt with the crushing disappointment of missing the original cut, the roller coaster of playing inside the ropes and about meeting Team USA swimmer Caeleb Dressel, who won five gold medals in Tokyo.
