Pebble Beach worker injured after mower slides off cliff

A maintenance worker at Pebble Beach Golf Links was airlifted to a local hospital after the riding lawn mower he was operating slid down a steep embankment and crashed into a tree on Monday. (insert hyperlink here)

The 48-year-old man was mowing a slope above the 10th fairway when the mower slipped off the edge and tumbled about 30 feet down a cliff.

The worker, whose name has not been released, sustained multiple injuries, including head trauma. He was initially airlifted to a nearby hospital before being transferred to a trauma center.

No further details about the extent of his injuries or his current condition have been released.

Officials at Pebble Beach say the accident is under investigation.

South Korea’s Inbee Yang fired an opening 6-under 65 on Thursday to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Women’s PGA Championship at Congressional Country Club.

Yang, a seven-time major winner, is seeking her first major title since the 2020 ANA Inspiration. She birdied five of her first 10 holes and added another on the par-5 15th to seize the early advantage.

“I’m hitting the ball really well,” Yang said. “I’m putting it really well. I’m just really happy with the way I’m playing.”

Defending champion Jennifer Kupcho opened with a 4-under 67, while Nelly Korda and Lexi Thompson both shot 68s.
