Niemann claims Saudi Int’l title in 3-way playoff

Chile’s Joaquin Niemann secured his second DP World Tour title with a gripping victory at the Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers on Sunday.

Niemann, 24, held his nerve in a three-way playoff, edging out Harold Varner III of the United States and Australia’s Lucas Herbert on the third extra hole to claim the title. The victory was Niemann’s first since the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open and moved him back into the top 20 of the Official World Golf Ranking.

After the emotional win, Niemann said: “It is very special to win here in Saudi Arabia. This is a tournament that I’ve been wanting to win for a long time, with a great field and everybody here is playing great. So to be able to lift the trophy here means a lot.

“I actually dreamed about this last night, and now I was able to make it happen. I’m just happy that I was able to make the putts when I needed to and hit some good shots down the stretch.”
