McIlroy-Lowry team among Zurich Classic leaders
Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry are among the leaders after the first round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. The Northern Irish and Irish duo shot a 6-under 66 in alternate-shot format on Thursday to sit one stroke off the pace set by Americans Trey Mullinax and Scott Stallings. McIlroy and Lowry made seven birdies and one bogey at TPC Louisiana, including four birdies on the back nine. They are tied for second place with four other teams, including defending champions Billy Horschel and Sam Burns.
The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is a team event in which players compete in alternate-shot and four-ball formats. The tournament is being played for the first time since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
