Coody atop ISCO after 1st round; Springer in mix
Hayden Springer made a strong start at the John Deere Classic, shooting a 6-under 65 to sit just two shots off the lead after the first round. The 31-year-old American, who is still searching for his first PGA Tour victory, carded seven birdies and one bogey at TPC Deere Run on Thursday to put himself in contention. “It was a special round,” Springer said. “I hit the ball really well, made some putts and took advantage of the par 5s. I’m really happy with where I’m at.” Springer is two shots behind leader Greyson Coody, who shot an 8-under 63.
