Detry leads, Spieth back in hunt at Phoenix Open
Thomas Detry fired a superb 8-under 63 on Friday to take a 3-shot lead after the second round of the WM Phoenix Open, with Jordan Spieth lurking just 4 shots off the pace.
Detry played flawless golf on the front nine, birdieing the first four holes and carding four more birdies through the 13th hole, with a lone bogey at the par-4 11th. Spieth, a two-time runner-up at TPC Scottsdale, rebounded from a rough start with a sizzling 64 to surge into contention at the star-studded event.
The third round is set to be another challenging test with strong winds expected. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler, chasing his seventh PGA Tour title after winning the Masters and Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier this year, remains in the hunt after a 69 left him tied for tied for seventh.
