McIlroy: Exhibition not meant to send message

Rory McIlroy played a relaxed exhibition match with Tiger Woods after the PGA Championship. Speaking to the Golf Channel, McIlroy said that the match was not organized as a message to LIV golfers, and that he has put the recent LIV Golf defections behind him.

“It wasn’t meant to be a message,” McIlroy said. “It was just an exhibition. It was supposed to be fun. That’s all it was. We had a good time and we put on a good show for the fans.”

McIlroy praised Woods’s performance as he returns from an injury, and says that Woods ‘proved’ his form.

“He hit it well and putted well. Tiger looks like he’s back.”
