The History and Secrets of the World’s Most Famous Putting Green
The renowned putting green at St Andrews Old Course holds a captivating history dating back to 1867. In response to objections raised by members of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A) against their daughters playing with caddies, David Burton established a separate putting green on a flatter section of the course. He commissioned legendary golfer Old Tom Morris to design a 15-hole layout known as the Ladies Golf Club or St Andrews Ladies Putting Green. This historic green, often referred to as the “Home of Putting,” has undergone modifications over the years, shaping the timeless masterpiece it is today.
