**Ames Defends Champions Event Title on Birthday**

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Steven Ames birdied the final four holes to win the Charles Schwab Cup Championship on Saturday, defending his title on his 53rd birthday.

Ames finished with a bogey-free 7-under 64 for a 19-under 265 total and a one-stroke victory over Steve Stricker on the PGA Tour Champions circuit. He started the day three strokes behind playing partner Steve Stricker, but was able to make up ground with a great run of holes on the back nine to secure the win.

“It’s a dream come true,” Ames said. “To be able to defend my title on my birthday, it’s just incredible. I’m so happy.”

Ames is now up to four PGA Tour Champions wins in his career.
