This hidden benefit of new PGA Tour schedule gives injured players options

The PGA Tour’s new schedule offers an unexpected perk for injured players – more flexibility. The revamped calendar, which debuted in 2023, features a more condensed season with increased off-weeks. This gives injured players additional time to recover and rehabilitate, without missing as many events.

“It’s a huge benefit for players who get hurt,” said PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan. “They now have more time to get healthy and get back on the course.”

This benefit was evident in the case of Cameron Champ, who suffered a rib injury in May 2023. Under the old schedule, he would have missed several significant events. However, the new schedule allowed him to take eight weeks off to recover, and he returned to action in July.
