Madrid’s Jose Luis Ballester, 21, captured the Havemeyer Trophy at the 124th U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills for his first victory in a USGA championship. This makes him the third Spanish-born player to win the title in the last 4 years. Ballester, who played college golf at Oklahoma State, is an economics and finance major who speaks four languages. He led Spain to the semifinals of the 2022 Eisenhower Trophy World Amateur Team Championship and is currently ranked 56th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
