‘Emphasis on aesthetics’: Dazzling U.S. Mid-Amateur site readies for spotlight
The Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Washington, will host the United States Golf Association’s (USGA) third Mid-Amateur Championship from Sept. 9-14. Originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course underwent a renovation in 2019 that emphasized aesthetics and playability. Superintendent Eric Johnson said that mow patterns and bunkering were revised to draw attention to the course’s dramatic elevation changes and stunning views of Puget Sound, Mt. Rainier and the Olympic mountains.
