Shuai Zhang upset world No. 2 Jessica Pegula to win the Abu Dhabi Open on Sunday, ending third-seeded Petra Kvitova’s bid for a third title in the United Arab Emirates.

Zhang, 34, broke into tears after hitting a backhand winner that secured a 6-3, 6-1 victory and her second career WTA 500 title.

The Chinese star’s victory also halted a nine-match winning streak by teenage sensation Iga Swiatek, who withdrew from Abu Dhabi with an unspecified illness last week.
