Campos Solidifies Command in Bermuda; Maintains Three-Shot Advantage
New father, Sebastian Campos, strengthened his grip on the Bermuda Championship lead and preserved his three-shot margin on day three at Port Royal Golf Course. The Argentine, who welcomed his second child just two weeks ago, conjured a consistent bogey-free round of 66 to consolidate his position at the summit.
Consistency and Confidence
Campos displayed remarkable composure and consistency throughout his round, collecting four birdies without dropping a shot. His unwavering focus and ability to convert scoring opportunities were pivotal in maintaining his three-stroke advantage. With just 18 holes remaining, the young Argentine looks destined to clinch his maiden PGA TOUR title.
Pursuers Emerge
While Campos remains in control, a group of talented players are within striking distance. Davis Riley, the overnight co-leader, slipped back with a 70 but remains in contention at 12-under, tied with Taylor Pendrith andPGA TOUR rookie Akshay Bhatia.
Experience Counts
Campos’s experience on the Korn Ferry Tour has undoubtedly been a contributing factor to his success in Bermuda. He boasts three victories and seven top-10 finishes on the feeder circuit. This level of seasoning has equipped him with the necessary skills to cope with the pressure and challenges of tournament play.
The Rest of the Field
Behind the leading quartet, a crowded chasing pack lurks with the potential to make a late surge. Among them is Sweden’s Alex Norén, a three-time PGA TOUR winner, who is four strokes off the lead. Other notables include Peter Malnati, Max Homa, and Jason Kokrak.

PORT ROYAL, Bermuda (AP**)- Ethan Campos’s recent fatherhood hasn’t slowed him down one bit.
The 29-year-old American fired a 5-under 66 on Monday to take a share of the first-round lead in the Bermuda Championship.
Campos, who welcomed his first child, a daughter named Olivia, with his wife, Taylor, in October, said he’s been able to maintain his focus on golf thanks to the support of his family and team.
“With any big life change, it takes a little bit of adjusting, but I’ve been fortunate to have a great support system around me,” Campos said. “My wife has been amazing, and my team has been very understanding.”
Campos’s consistency was on full display on Monday. He hit 14 of 18 greens in regulation and needed just 26 putts.
“I’m really pleased with the way I played today,” Campos said. “I hit the ball well, and I made some key putts when I needed to.”
Campos is tied with Wyndham Clark and Sepp Straka atop the leaderboard.
Clark, a 29-year-old American, also played a bogey-free round on Monday. He hit 15 of 18 greens in regulation and needed just 25 putts.
Straka, a 28-year-old Austrian, made three birdies and no bogeys on his first nine holes. He added two more birdies on his back nine to finish with a 5-under 66.
The trio holds a one-stroke lead over a group of four players, including defending champion Ryan Palmer.
Palmer, a 44-year-old American, shot a 4-under 67 on Monday. He hit 13 of 18 greens in regulation and needed just 27 putts.
The Bermuda Championship is the first event of the 2023-24 PGA Tour season. The tournament is being played at Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda.
– Campos: Adapting to new fatherhood, thriving under pressure
On the sidelines, Scottie Scheffler made clear that becoming a father has changed his perspective on life and golf, but it hasn’t affected his performance on the course. Scheffler, who welcomed his first child with wife Meredith in December, said that being a father has given him a new sense of purpose and motivation.
“It’s definitely given me a new perspective on life, and it’s made me appreciate the little things more. It’s also made me realize that there’s more to life than just golf.”
Scheffler’s comments come after he shot a 67 in the first round of the PGA Championship, putting him in a tie for the lead. It was his second straight bogey-free round, and he is now in position to win his first major championship.
Scheffler said that he is able to stay focused on the course because he knows that he has a lot of support at home. His wife and parents are all there to help him with the baby, and he knows that they will be there for him no matter what.
“It’s a great feeling to know that I have so much support at home. It takes a lot of the pressure off of me, and it allows me to focus on my game.”
Scheffler’s performance at the PGA Championship is a testament to his ability to adapt to new challenges. He has shown that he can be a successful golfer, a loving husband, and a caring father.
Rafael Campos, a newly-minted father, shares the lead after the second round of the Bermuda Championship.
