An Investigation into Optimal Golf Putting Cadence

The purpose of this study was to investigate the optimal golf putting cadence for improving putting performance. Cadence, defined as the time interval between the start of the backswing and the impact with the ball, is a critical aspect of putting that has been shown to influence accuracy and consistency. The study employed a randomized controlled trial design, with participants randomly assigned to one of three cadence groups: slow (1.5 seconds), medium (1.0 second), or fast (0.75 seconds). Results indicated that the medium cadence group exhibited significantly greater putting accuracy and consistency compared to the slow and fast cadence groups. These findings suggest that golfers may benefit from adopting a medium cadence during putting practice and competition to optimize their performance.
