Hayden Springer Shoots 59 with New Clubs

Hayden Springer made a statement on the Fourth of July by shooting a blistering 59 to take the lead at the John Deere Classic. The round was Springer’s first under 60 on the PGA Tour, and it came with the help of a new driver and woods.

Springer said he had been struggling with his driver all season, but he found a new one that he liked last week. He also made a few adjustments to his swing, and the results were evident on Thursday.

Springer’s 59 was the lowest round of the day by four strokes. He birdied the first three holes and made eight birdies on the back nine. He also had an eagle on the par-5 14th hole.

Springer’s round put him one stroke ahead of Ryan Moore and two strokes ahead of Vaughn Taylor. The 30-year-old is now in position to win his first PGA Tour event.
