Why Justin Thomas’ latest ‘disappointment’ at the Zozo looked different
Justin Thomas’ recent experience of “disappointment” at the Zozo Championship appeared distinct because it deviated from the norm.
Following his T-38 finish at the Zozo Championship last weekend, Thomas turned to Twitter to articulate his disappointment with his performance. “Disappointed with the way I played this week,” Thomas conveyed. “Didn’t play the way I wanted to, and it was very frustrating.”
However, this time, Thomas’ reaction to disappointment differed from his past responses. Historically, Thomas had a tendency to be hard on himself after underperforming, exhibiting behaviors like self-criticism, club slamming, and tournament withdrawal.
Yet, on this occasion, a shift was evident. Thomas acknowledged his disappointment but refrained from being as harsh on himself as he had previously been. He accepted responsibility for his errors and committed to deriving lessons from them.
“I’m not going to beat myself up about it too much,” Thomas explained. “Golf is a challenging game with its highs and lows. I choose to focus on the positives from this week and look forward.”
